Housing, Not Warehousing Coalition They say GENTRIFY—WE SAY OCCUPY! You are invited to the first meeting of the HOUSING, NOT WAREHOUSING COALITION Empty buildings and vacant lots are a problem throughout the city. They drive down property values, increase tax burdens on everyone, and are an emblem of urban blight. These properties are also an underutilized asset: rehabilitation of buildings into affordable housing is an incredible potential boon to communities. Picture the Homeless is seeking support from grassroots groups, faith communities, labor unions, and other organizations who are willing to join us in demanding that vacant property be developed into housing in ways that will stabilize communities—and not accelerate gentrification. With our March 19th Building Takeover as the kick-off, our Housing, Not Warehousing Coalition is going to kick it up a notch and create opportunities for allies to join the struggle... At this meeting, you will learn about: * Our Takeover Workgroup, where allies and PTH members will share skills and knowledge in shaping the direct action arm of our campaign against vacant buildings * Our Guerrilla Publicity Workgroup, engaging artists and cultural workers in developing innovative street messaging and other forms of grassroots media to get the whole city talking about the need for housing policy that helps the needy, not the greedy. * The current status of our Housing, Not Warehousing Legislation * Other upcoming events and actions and coalitions that we are part of WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22ND @ 3:00 pm St Mary's Episcopal Church 521 West 126th Street, bet.
