"DISOBBEDIENTI COMMUNICATION FROM EVIAN

Like in Genoa 2 years ago, the forces of order have responded with a military use of police, and only chance has saved the life of our brother Martin Shaw to whom goes all of our solidarity. As we write this, news of mass arrests comes from Losanna.

We have persevered through these days against the Evian G8 with the spirit of caminar domandando and above all the will to understand how the global movement can continue its course of resistance to neoliberalism after the war in Iraq and within the continuation of the permanent global war.

We have lived these days without a predefined plan but with a determination to experiment, together with the thousands of other demonstrators, with the forms that exist within the European political space to contest the ruling powers. At the same time, we live with a preoccupation: to see the return of the movement to the period before Seattle and Genoa, when we were satisfied to represent the actual public opinion without confronting the problem of contesting the actions of the global powers.

With satisfaction we say that the movement has surpassed the challenge of Evian. The multitudes, in which we are immersed, while entering in actions in Losanna, Geneva, and Annemasse, have not accepted the logic of pacification and of a return to pure testimony. The confrontation of the G8 war council has been interpreted in the right spirit, that of searching to obstruct the summit and to try to impede its development. An absolutely heterogeneous composition, prevalently young, and with little organization but a rebelling spirit has given life to the blocking actions, street parades, and grassroots sanctions of the imperial power symbols within a dynamic that has also been able to build a relationship with the general population. If it is considered that all of this has happened while the official development of the disputes on the part of the movement that has now assumed the characteristic of an authentic “beaurocraticization”—that marks a logic of complete pacification—it validates the importance that these demonstrations and actions have had in these last days. The stereotyped reading that tiredly proposes the categories of violent/non-violent to interpret how much is being done appears evermore blundered. The value of what is being done in Evian corresponds to a real dynamic of experimentation and the practice of conflict, that is determined however within a maturation and development of the areas that compose the European movement.

The disobbedienti have not brought a single line or form, but have been present within all of the direct actions in these days, from the blocks of Annemasse to those of the bridges in Geneva, to the actions in Losanna, and to those of the trans-border demonstration on the 1st of June. They have lived the days in Evian also as another occasion to experiment with GlobalProject as an active communication that takes part in the conflict and applies itself to the innovative dynamic of the movement. And it has done so while al delegation of disobbedienti have tried to enter into Iraq and now, after being repelled by American soldiers at the Iraqi border, have occupied the Italian Embassy in Amman, Jordan for the whole day.

From these days of rebellion we bring along quantity of experience, of experimentation and contamination important for the plan that the global movement has ahead of itself in the coming months. A quantity that we must, above all, cultivate within the Italian presidency of the European Union and against the forms that the constitutive proposes that the new Europe is assuming.
