The Kurt R. Schmeller Library of Queensborough Community College in conjunction with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is pleased to present an all day colloquium on Friday, October 3. Because it has been funded by a CUNY Faculty Development Grant, there is no charge for this program.Vice President James Neal, University Librarian of Columbia University is the Keynote Speaker, along with five additional distinguished and expert guests. Meet the speakers. However, advance registration is required. The deadline for registration is September 25.

In a forum including both lecture and discussion, colloquium participants will learn copyright law basics (e.g., scope of copyright, and rights of owners ), and tackle complex issues of fair use in the day-to-day arenas of classroom, distance education, and the library. The status of print, audiovisual and electronic information will be addressed, as well as computer programs and databases, and web sources. Guidelines, exemptions, licensed agreements, and recent court decisions relating to infringement, fair use and reproduction of copyrighted works in educational institutions will be presented. Individuals with specific questions or problems will be given the opportunity to air their concerns during the discussion segment of the program.
