Resistance 101: A Pro-Peace & Justice Teach-In

This FREE all-day event on Saturday, April 17th will include interactive panels and workshops with human rights and civil liberties experts and renowned theater artist-activists, capped off with THAW's monthly political theater performance cabaret, The Freedom Freedom Follies, held in the evening.Location:

City University of New York - Hunter College

Hunter West Building

(SW corner of 68th Street and Lexington Avenue)

Take the 6 train to 68th Street

Confirmed panelists so far include:

Dalia Hasad, Head of the Task Force on Arab-Americans and Civil Liberties, American Civil Liberties Union

Judith Malina and Hanon Reznikov, Co-Directors of the Living Theatre

Seymour Melman, Professor of Political Science, Columbia University, Expert on War Economy and the Military Industrial Complex

Alisa Solomon, Village Voice journalist and professor of English and Journalism at City University

Betty Shamieh, Palestinian-American playwright ("Roar", "Chocolate in Heat", "The Black-Eyed")

Danny Schecter, Veteran Print and Broadcast Journalist and Executive Director of the Media Channel

Malachy McCourt, Actor, Radio Host, Author and Activist 


OUTLINE OF THE DAY'S EVENTS:

11 A.M. - 1 P.M. - Panel One: The Crisis Defined

Panelists will speak to the question: How bad have things gotten under Bush and Company?

2 P.M. - 4 P.M. - Panel Two: Theater Responding to the Crisis

Panelists and the Audience will discuss inroads and theatrical strategies of resistance


4:30 P.M. - 6 P.M. - Interactive Workshops will build on the dialogue from the day's panels and create theatrical material. Workshops will be held by members of The Living Theatre, Billionaires for Bush, Theater of the Oppressed and dance movement specialists.

7:30 P.M. - 10 P.M. - THAW's Monthly Freedom Follies

THAW's monthly pro-peace party and cabaret featuring material generated from the day's interactive workshops, as well as short performances and readings related to the theme of protest and the university. This month's Follies also aims to achieve greater outreach to music and performances by up-and-coming young artists.
