Turkish Anarchists Demonstrate Against War & CapitalTURKEY-ISTANBUL: On the 1st of November, Anarchist Platform demonstrated against war, poverty, and capitalism in Istanbul. With bread (symbolizing poverty) and black flags in their hands, anarchists burned American and Mc Donalds flags. Police attacked the anarchists violently and 58 anarchists arrested; all beaten brutally, one is hospitalized because of serious injury. The demo started in the main campus of Istanbul University in Beyazit. Anarchists With the slogans 'No justice no peace!' , 'No bread no peace!', anarchists carried breads symbolizing that global capitalism in peace causes poverty, starvation and misery for humanity. While marching to the main entrance, 'Capitalism kills in War and Peace!', 'Capitalist war mongers: oil giants and arm traders!' 'More patience more poverty! More patience more misery! It's enough, no more slavery!' slogans were yelled. When, anarchists reached the main entrance, they continued to yell the slogans and forced to break down the chained gate leading to Beyazit Square (That gate is a huge historical building and it is always chained. Breaking the chains at this gate has a symbolical meaning) . While breaking the chains 'State, Domination, Hierarchy will be smashed by Anarchy!' , 'Corporation, Domination, Hierarchy will be smashed by Anarchy!' and 'Earth, Commune, Freedom!' slogans were echoed in Beyazit Square. After breaking the gate, Anarchist Platform was in the square, waving the flags and breads, they yelled 'No justice no peace!', 'No bread no peace!'. Anarchists burned the US and McDonald's flags In Beyazit Square. While reading the declaration (below) police attacked the anarchists brutally. Anarchists resisted the police, 58 anarchists were arrested, beaten and sprayed caspicium. Most of the anarchists were injured and one of them was hospitalized. As global capitalism is the cause of the war in Afghanistan, it is also the cause of the economic crisis and poverty in the countries like Turkey experience and all these are interrelated. And also, this action is important as it is the first action of anarchists in the Beyazit Square, with their own initiatives and black flags. The Beyazit Square is a very important place in the history of the social movements in Turkey. It is a 'traditional' place for demonstrations against state policies. So, the square is always full of police and controlled tightly. The demo day was also important, because it was the day that Turkish government decided to send soldier to Afghanistan for the benefits of US and her allies. Our struggle and actions against war, poverty and capitalism will continue and rise! NO JUSTICE NO PEACE! ANARCHIST PLATFORM DECLARATION: CAPITALISM KILLS IN WAR AND PEACE
The war against Afghanistan is for the benefit of oil corporations, drug and arm traders. This is just global capitalism! And global capitalism is the system of exploiting humanity and nature for money and profit. So as to change Turkey into the marketplace of capitalism in the control of IMF and World Bank, Turkish government tries hard to sentence us to starvation, poverty and misery! The roles of the directives of IMF and the bombs on Afghanistan are the same: to destroy humanity and ecology for the profit of global capitalism! While thousands are bombed to death in war, everyday thirty/fourty thousand people are dying because of starvation under the peace of capitalism. We condemn both the war and the peace of capitalism! The peace is the suppression of freedom and justice screams of humanity which is in the clamps of domination and injustice! We refuse! We are not doomed to crisis and wars! Instead of capitalism‚s money-profit-greed, we have to put our values of freedom, solidarity, and humanity. As long as humanity is patient to the peace lies of capitalism and the puppets like Dervis (Economy Minister of Turkey appointed by WB), the gain will not be more than starvation, poverty, and misery! WE DECIDED NOT TO LOSE! MORE PATIENCE MORE POVERTY, MORE PATIENCE MORE MISERY! ANARCHIST PLATFORM
