Keeping Track of John Poindexter

By Paul Boutin, 02:00 AM Dec. 14, 2002 PT

The head of the US government's
Total Information Awareness
project, which aims to root
out potential terrorists by
aggregating credit-card,
travel, medical, school and
other records of everyone in
the United States, has
himself become a target of
personal data profiling.

Online pranksters, taking
their lead from a San
Francisco journalist, are
publishing John Poindexter's
home phone number, photos of
his house and other personal
information to protest the
TIA program.

The photos of John Poindexter's house are found here: cryptome.

gnat writes: "On Wednesday, December 4, students and community members met to hold Unviersity President, and former US Senator, Bob Kerrey accountable for his outspoken pro-war stance.

After weeks of being ingnored by Kerrey and the administration, students decided it was time to take action in convening a forum. On November 20th, twenty-four students held a sit-in, inside Kerrey's office, refusing to leave unless he agreed to one demand; a public forum addressing his views on Iraq, and how it effects the school. Which after half an hour of negotiating, he did.

"Misinformation About Iraq

A Fantastical Future, Predicted by the Terminally Disengaged"

By Edward Said, Counterpunch, December 3, 2002

The flurry of reports, leaks, and misinformation about the looming US war against Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq continues unabated. It is impossible to know, however, how much of this is a brilliantly managed campaign of psychological war against Iraq, how much the public floundering of a government uncertain about its next step. In any event, I find it as possible to believe that there will be a war as that there will not. Certainly the sheer belligerency of the verbal assaults on the average citizen are unprecedented in their ferocity, with the result that very little is totally certain about what is actually taking place. No one can independently confirm the various troop and navy movements reported on a daily basis, and given the lurching opacity of his thinking, George W Bush's real intentions are difficult to read. But that the whole world is concerned -- indeed, deeply anxious -- about the catastrophic chaos that will ensue after another Afghanistan-like air campaign against the people of Iraq, of that there is little doubt.

The War Against Reason

Harold Pinter's anti-war speech (delivered in House of Commons)

There‚s an old story about Oliver Cromwell. After he had taken the Irish
town of Drogheda the citizens were brought to the main square. Cromwell
announced to his lieutenants: "Right! Kill all the women and rape all
the men." One of his aides said: "Excuse me, general. Isn't it the other
way around?" A voice from the crowd called out: "Mr Cromwell knows what
he's doing."

That voice is the voice of Tony Blair - "Mr Bush knows what he's doing."

Assassination of Joseph Eneko,

Governor of Ituri Province

On Thursday November 21, 2002 (some reports have mentioned Friday), Joseph Eneko, his body guards and several Congolese who were traveling with him, were assassinated, near the town of Mahagi (In the Northeastern Province of Ituri in the DRCongo). As of this writing we do not have all the details regarding this barbarous act which has stripped Ituri and the entire country of a true jewel in the ethical struggle for sustained peace, integrity, reconciliation with truth, for the total and complete end of all forms of violence which daily keep our compatriots in a quasi permanent state of mourning.

Campaign for a Sustained Peace

In the Democratic Republic of Congo

Introduction

Our country was born out of a series of conquests, i.e. through warfare and subjugation of its inhabitants through brutal force. The massacre of millions of people was justified, ironically, under the label of pacification and civilization. The lives and thoughts of people were despised. "Might is right" was not only the best principle, but considered to be the only valid one. The consciousness of radical impotence and shaking fear in front of the ruler/leader was thus firmly implanted.
