Work, Play & Boredom May 2010 Conference CFP Call for Papers for an ephemera Conference at University of St. Andrews, 5-7 May 2010. Deadline for abstracts: 31 January 2010. In recent years, play has become an abiding concern in the popular business literature and a crucial aspect of organizational culture. While managerial interest in play has certainly been with us for some time, there is a sense that organizations are becoming ever-more receptive to incorporating fun and frivolity into everyday working life. Team-building exercises, simulation games, puzzle-solving activities, office parties, themed dress-down days, and colourful, aesthetically-stimulating workplaces are notable examples of this trend. Through play, employees are encouraged to express themselves and their capabilities, thus enhancing job satisfaction, motivation, and commitment. Play also serves to unleash an untapped creative potential in management thinking that will supposedly result in innovative product design, imaginative marketing strategies and, ultimately, superior organizational performance. Play, it seems, is a very serious business indeed.
Sit-In for Patients Not Profits at WellPoint, New York City October 29, 2009 10 AM Dear Single-Payer Supporters: In two days, the next wave of the Mobilization for Health Care for All begins. After over 100 people have risked arrest across the country in sit-ins in the last month, we are beginning to shift the debate about health care reform in our country. Our actions have helped to put a spotlight on the real problem - the insurance companies - and elevate the real solution - Medicare for All. And they have demonstrated the real engine of change: the determined, courageous action of everyday people willing to put their bodies on the line to challenge injustice.

Mobilization for Health Care for All Goes National http://is.gd/4i2NI, from Healthcare-NOW! In just two more days, the Mobilization for Health Care for All goes national. When we launched this campaign we envisioned about 100 people signing up to sit in in the first weeks of the campaign – but with over 700 already, we’re now well on our way to 1000 pledges. And we originally talked about sit-ins happening in 3 or 4 cities on October 15th – today we’re proud to announce that “Patients Not Profit” sit-ins will be happening in at least 9 cities across the country this Thursday! Below you’ll find a list with each city, the details for the action, and a contact. If you’re close enough to attend one of these actions and you’re not plugged in yet – please contact the local coordinator, join in, show up. Local leaders in these cities have worked tremendously hard to pull these actions together with very little time and we need to do everything we can to support them and make each one as big and strong as possible.
Forthcoming Team Colors Book on Radical Currents & Organizing Friends, Team Colors is pleased to announce that AK Press will be publishing the collective’s first book, Uses of a Whirlwind: Movement, Movements, and Contemporary Radical Currents in the United States. The volume will be released June 2010 to coincide with the US Social Forum in Detroit. “Will you join us in the middle of a whirlwind?” This is the question Team Colors has asked organizers, activists, artists, and theorists as we have sought to understand the current composition and strength of radical movements in the United States. In utilizing the metaphor of a whirlwind to describe the myriad of struggles that are taking place currently and those that have been blowing across the planet over the past decade, Team Colors has conducted an inquiry and examination of movements in the United States, which has resulted in the collection Uses of a Whirlwind: Movement, Movements, and Contemporary Radical Currents in the United States (Whirlwinds). Whirlwinds provides case studies, movement strategies, theoretical analysis and interviews on radical community organizing—toward making social change possible!
No Borders Groups Call to Action for Copenhagen Climate Change This is a call out to action to international no borders groups during the COP 15 in Copenhagen! Starting December 7, 2009 Climate change is now the ULTIMATE Shock and Awe. It encompasses all of life now, and is the new spectacle. The climate change spectacle is the complete reconstruction and revitalization of capitalism and all of its domination, hierarchies, exploitation, racism, sexism, patriarchy, heteronormativity, commodifications, privatizations, oppressions, repressions, murders, lies, and greed. Climate change will be used to terrorize us in every way we have been terrorized before, but encompassing all the single factors into one. In the name of security, Everything that living things depend is on its way to being commodified and privatized, to push us even further and possibly completely into pure Milton Friedman ´Chicago School´ of fundamental capitalist corporatism.
