TURKEY-ISTANBUL:

On the 1st of November, Anarchist Platform demonstrated against war, poverty, and capitalism in Istanbul. With bread (symbolizing poverty) and black flags in their hands, anarchists burned American and Mc Donalds flags. Police attacked the anarchists violently and 58 anarchists arrested; all beaten brutally, one is hospitalized because of serious injury.

The demo started in the main campus of Istanbul University in Beyazit. Anarchists
carrying the banner 'CAPITALISM KILLS IN WAR AND PEACE' started marching. The exciting participation, black flags waving everywhere, slogans and the drums played in harmony with the slogans increased the enthusiasm.

Patti Hearst writes: "The 103 year-old Swedish anarchist magazine Brand will
soon go to trial on charges of incitement to riot.

The charges were raised a little over one year ago by
the Swedish Secret Police (SÄPO) and received a great
deal of publicity in the Swedish mainstream media.
The charge refers to an ironic article in the
International Women's Day, 8th of March 2000 issue,
about "How to make your riot a success, from A to Z".
The entire issue is a parody of women's magazines and
this article is a parody of their "How to make your
party a success" columns.

hefty prison sentence, especially in the current
lynching climate against "all things anarchist"
after the EU Top meeting in Gothenburg this past

Berkeley, CA--Plaintiffs in four lawsuits that have
been filed against the Pacifica Foundation announced
today that they expected to reach an agreement with
Pacifica that could put an end to the struggles at
Pacifica, the only independent radio network in the
United States. "We thank the listeners, producers,
staff, LAB members, affiliate stations, and others
throughout the country who have been the backbone of
this struggle and whose continued support and
involvement will bring us to our common goals to serve
the mission of Pacifica and achieve our vision of free
speech, community, and corporate-free radio," reads
the statement issued by the plaintiffs on Saturday
afternoon.



In response to what appeared to be a corporate
takeover of the Pacifica Network, founded by pacifists
in 1949 and dedicated to airing diverse perspectives
that promote peace and social justice, four lawsuits
had been filed against the Pacifica Foundation--by
listeners, local advisory board members, and national
board members. They sought to regain control of the
community radio network from a clique of board members
and national managers who had eliminated community
input at the network and censored and banned
journalists who disagreed with them. Freelance
journalists refuse to work for Pacifica because of its
notorious censorship policies. And a national campaign
was launched earlier this year to boycott Pacifica
fundraising efforts and unseat the board of directors
members who created the imbroglio at the network.

As it turns out, the Bush team was not the first to contemplate using subliminal projection to sway voters. During the mid-'50s, then-Vice President Richard Nixon became curious when he got wind of CIA testing of subliminal manipulation for espionage purposes.

Nixon never explained to what extent, if any, he actually pursued using subliminal techniques during any of his election campaigns. And the CIA remains mum on the issue. Most MK-ULTRA documents were summarily destroyed on orders of outgoing CIA chief Richard Helms in 1973. The files were shredded because of "a burgeoning paper problem," according to Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, the sorcerer-spook who ran the MK-ULTRA program. Gottlieb admitted as much when he testified at a 1977 Senate hearing on CIA mind control scandals. Gottlieb was never grilled about the CIA's subliminal research.

Prevented By Armed Military From Flying To Greens Meeting In Chicago

Armed government agents grabbed Nancy Oden, Green Party USA coordinating committee member, Thursday at Bangor International Airport in Bangor Maine, as she attempted to board an American Airlines flight to Chicago.

"An official told me that my name had been flagged in the computer," a shaken Oden said. "I was targeted because the Green Party USA opposes the bombing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan."

Oden, a long-time organic farmer and peace activist in northern Maine, was ordered away from the plane. Military personnel with automatic weapons surrounded Oden and instructed all airlines to deny her passage on ANY flight. "I was told that the airport was closed to me until further notice and that my ticket would not be refunded," Oden said.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A judge ruled Thursday that a 15-year-old sophomore cannot form an Anarchy Club or wear T-shirts opposing the U.S. bombing of Afghanistan because it would disrupt school.



Katie Sierra was suspended from Sissonville High School for three days for promoting the club. She was also told she could not wear T-shirts with messages such as: "When I saw the dead and dying Afghani children on TV, I felt a newly recovered sense of national security. God Bless America.''



In a complaint filed with her mother, Sierra argued her right to free speech was being denied.



Circuit Court Judge James Stucky agreed that free speech is "sacred'' but he found that such rights are "tempered by the limitations that they ... not disrupt the educational process.''



Sierra said she'll pursue the dispute.



"I don't want war. I'm not for Afghanistan,'' Sierra said. "I think that what we're doing to them is just as bad as what they did to us, and I think it needs to be stopped.''



James Withrow, lawyer for the Kanawha County Board of Education, argued that an Anarchy Club was inappropriate because students "do not feel that their school is a safe place anymore.''



"Anarchy is the antithesis of what we believe should be in schools,''
Withrow said.



Sierra's attorney, Roger Forman, said she is "being punished for expressing her opinion.''"

Pacifica Board Vice-Chair Ken Ford has resigned his post effective immediately, according to new Pacifica Board Chair Bob Farrell and Jerry Howard, the chief executive officer of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) where Ken Ford works.



The resignation comes in the wake of the massive wave of protests sparked by Ken Ford's controversial statements in The San Francisco Examiner last week. There, Ken Ford likened the Pacifica reform movement to the Sept. 11 terrorists and laid out an argument for the sale of Pacifica stations KPFA and WBAI.

Maybe they're nervous--in Qatar, any form of protest is strictly
illegal, and VERY heavily punishable (depending on the King's mood).
How will people react when the first hundred protesters get their
heads chopped clean off? Morocco doesn't like that sort of extremism,
and neither do France or Nepal. Lots of beheaded peaceniks is likely
to annoy almost everyone!

using video visitation technology. Video visitation allows
prisoners and visitors to speak to one another's video
images rather than meet face to face, and many authorities
support the application of the technology because it
prevents any exchange of contraband between prisoners and
visitors and cuts down on the number of personnel needed to
guard meetings.

However, some civil rights activists believe
that prisoners need the face-to-face experience of personal
visits to be prepared for re-entering society, while certain
prisoners say using the system makes them feel that someone
is always watching or listening. Sherburne County has been
operating the system for over the year, with 58 cameras and
screens. Other prisons with comparable set-ups include Blue
Earth and Dakota counties, and the Minnesota Department of
Corrections reports that five or more additional counties
intend to install systems.
