WE ARE ALL WOMBLES!

As soon as they first hit the headlines in the press hysteria before MayDay 2001, the W.O.M.B.L.E.S. have been relentlessly harassed by the police. Falsely portrayed in the media as violent criminals out for trouble, their only crime is to stand up for themselves - in a culture where the police look more like robocops in their stab-proof vests and NATO helmets, the WOMBLES are attacked because they have white overalls on and cushions stuffed up their jumpers!

Statement of Teachers Protesting the Israeli Invasion

We, as teachers, condemn the new Israeli attack on Palestinians in the West Bank and demand the end of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

We are inspired by the stand of Jose Bove and the hundreds of peace activists from Europe and the United States who have gone to Ramallah and other towns to block with their bodies the Israeli government's attempt to crush the Palestinian resistance and destroy the Palestinian National Authority headquarters.

We demand an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza because the campaign of terror which the population of the occupied territories is being subjected to--the break-ins in the houses of unarmed civilians, the mass arrests of Palestinian youth, the wanton destruction of property and of any symbol of Palestinian self-governance, including the summary execution of Palestinian officials, and the siege of Yasser Arafat's headquarters--are barbaric acts, condemned by international law, to which none of us can give his/her assent.

A war is currently being waged against the Palestinian people by the state of Israel and by the United States. Their prime motivation is not to protect Israel, but to protect the elite and their agenda of corporate globalization. The Israeli military is forcing people from their homes and killing innocent civilians in cold blood, while the people of Palestine are fighting to keep their homeland. This war is funded by US tax dollars, and directed by the war criminal Ariel Sharon, who fully supports the atrocities committed by the Israeli military.

About GASCD

Through the generous support of a number of top Canadian and
American musicians such as Ani DiFranco, The Barenaked Ladies, Bruce Cockburn,Sarah Harmer, Bill Frisell, Michael Fronti and others, the GASCD project have put together a double CD album, now available online and across North America. Visit our website (gascd) to find out where.

The CD and the web site were launched to raise awareness about the growing anti-globalization movement and to raise money to help those who are at the front line of the movement. Some of the initial money raised will be going to aid the legal defence of those arrested during the Quebec Summit of the Americas; while the GASCD Board will continue to look to assist other groups around the world as the project grows.

This project was inspired by the events at the the Summit of the Americas held this past April from April 17th- 21st. Between 40,000 and 80,000 people from all over the Americas gathered in Quebec City to protest the FTAA (the Free Trade Area of the Americas), to oppose the dominance of transnational corporations over local communities, and to demand that our
governments be accountable to the people they're supposed to represent.

We hope to create a space where people can learn, share stories and information, and make the links between the impact of corporate power around the globe and what's going on in our own backyards.
