5:30pm, A22 Collective Anti-Capitalist Actions Against Sharon & Racism,
Washington Hilton, 1919 Connecticut Avenue in Adams Morgan.
Anti-Capitalist Bloc in solidarity with others against Sharon & Racism
will be forming a Bloc at the protests at the AIPAC conference where
Ariel Sharon will be speaking. We are asking people to dress in black
as an expression of defiance and mourning and to use all black banners
with white lettering and if you need to mask up use a khafiyah (arab
headress). Some black coffins would also be good. We are asking
individuals not to engage in militant tactics during the A20 march upon
request of other organizing groups, this is more of a concern than a
block of such tactics. There will be three types of actions people can
participate in at the Hilton on April 22nd. The only public action we
are revealing at this time is a cross between a Green type of action
and a Yellow action this action will involve symbolic low-risk of
arrest civil disobedience or direct action, there will be other direct
actions beside the call to Mass Action. Types of Actions: Green
(permitted protest pit near Hilton); Yellow (non-violent civil
disobedience, more than symbolic civil disobedience, near or around the
Hilton); Red (confrontational tactics, more than symbolic or yellow
types of civil disobedience.) Yellow and Red actions should not occur
near or around the Green zone (South of T St on the West Side of
Connecticut Ave). Red actions should not interfere or jeapordize
yellow actions. All to be worked out at the spokes council. We are
not planning any Red types of actions we encourage Red types of
Affinity Groups to attend the Spokes Council to work out what Yellow
types of Action are planning to avoid any unecessary conflicts. We
will have several scenarios for discussion at the Spokes Council, we
will also be taking new scenario proposals & getting updates as
information on police tactics become more available. Post reports
about completed actions to DC IMC.

BACKGROUND

Amid the reports of mass graves and massive human rights violations
in the latest attempt of the IDF to re-occupy Palestinian areas
we note that the underlying problem is not ethnic or religious
strife, nor Israel's right to defense, rather it is the inherent
racism of the elites in American Society and Israelis society
that are comprised of the Capitalist class. We are all familiar
with the victims of this system. Palestine is just the latest
example of it. We see the same thing in Columbia as well.

Louis Proyect on the marxmail list posts: "Please spread the word far and wide and call your foreign ministry or the U.S. State Department and tell them not to recognize the new government of Venezuela. Chavez has not resigned! According to people I spoke to this morning, who work close to Chavez, he is being held against his will by the military, who are claiming he has resigned, when he has not. Isolate the new government of Venezuela, so as to support democracy everywhere!"

Coup in Venezuela: An Eyewitness Account

By Gregory Wilpert

The orchestration of the coup was impeccable and, in all likelihood, planned a long time ago. Hugo Chavez, the fascist communist dictator of Venezuela could not stand the truth and thus censored the media relentlessly. For his own personal gain and that of his henchmen (and henchwomen, since his cabinet had more women than any previous Venezuelan government's), he drove the country to the brink of economic ruin. In the end he proceeded to murder those who opposed him. So as to reestablish democracy, liberty, justice, and prosperity in Venezuela and so as to avoid more bloodshed, the chamber of commerce, the union federation, the church, the media, and the management of Venezuela's oil company, in short: civil society and the military decided that enough is enough -- that Chavez had his chance and that his experiment of a 'peaceful democratic Bolivarian revolution' had to come to an immediate end.

This is, of course, the version of events that the officials now in charge and thus also of the media, would like everyone to believe. So what really happened? Of course I don t know, but I'll try to represent the facts as I witnessed them.

Media Democracy Weekend - March 22 & 23 - Washington DC

This weekend in Washington DC, protestors, academics, public interest
activists, and community organizers to come together in defense of our media
democracy. The recent wave of media mergers, network consolidation, and
misguided FCC deregulation has everyone from Robert McChesney to William
Safire questioning the FCC's judgment.

Angels of Public Interest Will Descend Upon the FCC

Friday, March 22; 3:00-6:00 PM

445 12th Street NW; Washington, DC

Hark Ye, Friend!

Angels of Public Interest shall descend upon Washington, DC three hours past noon on the 22nd day of March in the vicinity of the Federal Communications Commission at 445 12th Street NW. The Angels shall resolutely teacheth those who command power within the FCC that Media and Communications Technology Should Forever Serve People Over Profits.

We encourage all Angels such as yourself to come to the gathering dressed in your best Angel garb -- halo, wings, glitter, the whole nine yards.

If your halo and wings are still at the dry cleaner, perhaps you could at least keep with the Angel color-scheme by wearing a solid white or black shirt. Still, an Angel's presence and attitude are always more important than his or her duds, so if you can't dress up, don't worry about it. This is your time to shine!

the hippie writes: We're trying to get the word out about a march we at the newly-founded Chicagoland Activist Collective are organizing. It will start at noon on March 23rd in Schaumburg, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) at the Denny's there and will march down Golf Road to Woodfield Mall.

Our purposes are:

1)to spread the word about the Chicagoland Activist Coalition;

2)to stand firm against our lives being used as pawns for an elitist class's greed;

3)to block off Golf Road and disrupt business as usual in the Woodfield Mall business district;

4)to bring an enthusiastic message of peace into the suburbs.

Any questions? Contact the hippie

LOFT DWELLERS UNITE:

The LiveWork Coalition will host a community meeting with loft tenants and elected representatives Wednesday, February 20th.

Join us on Wednesday, February 20th at 7pm, to meet with loft tenants living without protection from harassment and eviction. The meeting will be held at Henry Street Settlement, Abrons Art Center 466 Grand Street in Manhattan.

WHAT IS THE LIVE WORK COALITION?

We are artists and designers living in lofts not covered under the existing Loft Law of 1980. The LiveWork Coalition was officially created when dozens of long-term tenants were evicted from their lofts in DUMBO in December of 2000. Since then, the LiveWork Coalition has received over 1,000 individual responses to an online census form for loft tenants. Under scrutiny by landlords and developers alike, the LiveWork Coalition has gained support from neighborhood businesses, arts organizations, and galleries.

We are continuing to lobby for the passage of the Next Generation Loft Law, A5580. Our coalition is committed to the preservation of our diverse communities and the continuing contributions that our communities bring to our city.
