STOP STAR WARS
STOP THE AMERICAN MISSILE SHIELD
Wednesday 22 August
At the American Consulate in Amsterdam, Museumplein 19, 3 o'clock.
Organized by the Jungle Association of Autonomous Astronauts
The National Missile Defence system (NMD), which the American government is planning to built in order to defend themselves against miniature 'rogue-states' like North-Korea proves once again the high amount of slapstick present in the rhetoric of George W. Bush. He may be evil but he is still a lousy Darth Vader. Darth Vader, for all his sins, expressed himself in an intelligible manner, looked a great deal better and even posessed of a more coherent ideology. The missile system, however, is nothing more than sentimental machismo from frustrated cowboys: Bush bragging to Vladimir Putin he has got the largest (rocket).
alias writes: "MORE GARDENS! GARDEN ACTIVISTS TO PRESENT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF SIGNATURES TO CITY ADMINISTRATORS IN A BID TO PLACE A GARDEN-SAVING REFERENDUM ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.
On Wednesday August 1, at 11:30am, Community Garden activists will conclude the Vote For Gardens campaign with a festive, musical march on City Hall including beautiful garden-themed puppets, souza-style music, and wheelbarrows full of signatures. After a noon press conference, they will present them to the city clerk for verification. At the press conference will be Kenneth M. Fischer, and representatives from numerous gardening, housing, and environmental groups such as the NYC Garden Coalition, The Green Guerillas, Metropolitan Council on Housing, New York Environmental Justice Alliance, and More Gardens Coalition.
Ben Trombone writes: "The Hungry March Band, Brooklyn's waterfront weirdo street band, will be participating in a Radical Puppetry Festival in Glover, Vermont at the end of August. Though this event is put on by a bunch of Bread and Puppet alumni, it will be a separate event altogether, with workshops, discussions, performances, and no doubt plenty of improvisatory merry-making around the role of radical street theater in political action."
Surveillance Camera Players writes: "On Friday, 7 September 2001, a variety of groups from all over the world are collaborating on an international day of autonomous actions against the constant, indiscriminate and technologically sophisticated video surveillance of public places by both businesses and law enforcement agencies.
