Tenants are needed for the first day in court in the lawsuit challenging
Governor Pataki's recent changes to the Rent Stabilization Code. The
judge must see that this issue is important to tenants. Although the suit
is being launched in Brooklyn, if we prevail, the anti-tenant changes
could be stopped statewide. Come to court!

to all activist lists and support groups. I need your help! Andy's court date had been moved because of expected attendance!

Activist Andy Stepanian is asking for court support for December 11-14th, 2001, at 8:30 am at Nassau Courthouse, Old Country Road, Mineola (Long Island) (directions below).

Update from Andy:

"I was informed at my last court appearence that the trial wich had originally been set to begin November 26th had now been pushed back to December 10th, for reasons not fully explained... Both my lawyer and I surmise that the mass attendance of supporters pushed the courts to move the date back in hopes less people would attend my trial. There also apears to be some light at the end of this tunnel, and I ask everybody to please help me reach some justice in this case. Please be sure to attend my court dates, December 11th-14th (do not attend the 10th, that day is jury selection and an overwhelming attendance will hinder and agrivate the judge in his selection process.) I love each and every one of you people, you activists are my brothers and sisters in struggle.

Love and Liberation

Andy Stepanian"

New York City continues. It should move into high gear this coming
weekend in New York after several meetings happen. Hopefully, the
Anti-Capitalist Convergence in Washington, DC will endorse this call at
our next meeting. It's looking like the WEF meeting will shape up to be
a major anti-capitalist protest.

If your group or project would like to endorse this call, please email
me and I'll add your endorsement to the web version of this call.
Individuals can also endorse. Pseudonyms are OK if you want to protect
your identity.

Come Join the Astor Place Whirl-Mart!

On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 12-1 pm, there will be a Whirl-Mart
event at the Astor Place K-Mart at Lafayette and St. Marks
(pre-whirl meeting in front of the store @ 11:45).
Whirl-Mart is a monthly ritual which involves participants
meeting at a given superstore and proceeding to push empty
shopping carts in silence throughout the store for an hour.
It is at once an act of performance, protest and
meditation....and YOU are invited!!! for more information,

here is the straight text from the flyer:

What is Whirl-mart?

Whirl-Mart is an anti-shopping ritual during which
a local breathingplanet troupe gathers and silently
pushes empty shopping carts through the aisles
of a local superstore. The ritual takes place on the
first Sunday of every month at 12 pm and lasts for
approximately one hour. It is at once a meditative and
energizing experience that blurs the boundaries
between action and audience.

Call for an Anti-Capitlaist Convergence Against the World Economic Forum in New York City (January 31ÑFebruary 4)

Join Us as New Yorkers Strike Back Against Corporate Terror

For years now, the CEOs of major corporations, hundreds
of top international government officials and just plain rich
people -- from Bill Gates to Bill Clinton -- have been meeting every
year in Davos, Switzerland. This is where the real rulers of the
world give the politicians their marching orders. This is where
the schemes that lead to atrocities like GATT and the WTO are
actually hatched. And this year, the dining club for the world
ruling class will be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Midtown

The WEF is moving here because they were effectively chased out
of Switzerland by a concerted campaign of direct action. They
think that here in New York we're shell-shocked, punch-drunk, and
maybe we are but -- whaddya fuckin' kiddin' me?

This coming weekend, students from Columbia University will join
thousands of other peace activists and concerned citizens to protest the US Army School of the Americas in Ft. Benning, Georgia. The SOA is where the US uses our taxpayer money to train Latin American military personnel such as the infamous Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, the leaders of the death squad that murdered Archbishop Oscar Romero in El Salvador, and the paramilitaries who persecute trade unionists in Colombia today.

Please join People for Peace, the Columbia University/Morningside
Heights anti-war coalition, at this crucial demonstration against
militarism both here and in Latin America. This protest is legal and
permitted and is expected to have over 20,000 participants. Because of
the war situation, the army base is on high alert, but since the
organizers have recieved a permit for all the events, the risk of arrest is minimal.

A bus to Georgia will be leaving from 116th Street & Broadway at 2 pm on Saturday, November 17th. We will protest on Sunday and return by noon on Monday morning. Tickets are $95 round-trip (some financial
assistance is available for students and low-income people).

To reserve a ticket or for more information about the buses, email or call 212-853-7992.
For more information on the protest itself, check out

Here's a mainstream article that might inspire you to COME TO OTTAWA FROM
NOV. 16-18th!!

They say that they expect 5,000 protesters. Let's prove them wrong and
surprise the Ottawa Police with 20,000.

It's time to take a stand more hiding behind "vigils".

Anarchists vow to shut down G-20, others pledge peaceful protests

OTTAWA (CP) - Anarchists are threatening to shut down the G-20 meeting which
opens in Ottawa next Friday, and protest organizers are preparing for the
possibility of arrests and injuries. While most protest groups say they are
committed to peaceful tactics, some anarchists are striking a more militant

"We propose that we attempt to shut down the IMF/WB/G-20 meetings as well as
we can, by snake marching militantly through the downtown core of Ottawa,"
says a Toronto group called The Black Touta.
