We at RTS NYC recently conducted a poll.

We asked CEOs, high-level government officials and
other members of the wealthy global elite the
following question:

Four months after the worst terrorist attack in U.S.
history, at a time when the site of the World Trade
Center remains a smoldering mass grave; when thousands
of New Yorkers have been laid off; when the city has
entered into austerity mode, initiating budget cuts,
axing social programs and welfare (but generously
donated a community center to a needy developer); and
when many New Yorkers are still deep in the process of
mourning their dead and a home forever changed, what
would be the best way to spend a few million taxpayer
dollars?

a) on social programs that would benefit New York's
poor, hungry, homeless and jobless

b) on a 5-day cocktail party for rich people

Our prestigious respondents unanimously chose "b".

(Though George W. Bush requested, "No fancy fruity
drinks. Just beer and chicks.")

We at RTS NYC have decided to endorse these lovable
fat
cats. We figure, with all that money and power, they
must know what they're doing!

So in solidarity with the World Economic Forum, RTS is
throwing its own bash -- a musically oriented,
danceable one, of course. Argentine Tango, anyone?
Consider yourself cordially invited to...

DANCE UPON THE RUINS OF THE WORLD

Profits Before People! Rebuild NY for Big Business!

Dress up, make music, and tango till you drop.

Date: Saturday, 2 February

Time: Noon

Place: The Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Park Avenue, NYC

Formal attire.

Calling all samba bands, musicians of every stripe,
tango instructors, bikers in ball gowns and
loudmouths. Meet with us next Wednesday, 16 January,
at 7pm at Judson Church (55 Washington Square South,
near Thompson St.) to plan the party.

Libertarian Book Club's Anarchist
Forum, January 2002

What Is This War Really About?

co-sponsored by Counter Information Alliance (C.I.A.)

On Tuesday, January 8, at 7:30pm, the Libertarian Book Club's Anarchist
Forum welcomes Bill Weinberg, Silvia Federici, Eric Laursen and Jay
Underhill as a panel, discussing "What Is This War Really About?", that
will provide alternative and anarchist views of what is really
motivating and guiding the Bush administration in it's supposed war on
terrorism. Is this war really more about building the power of
capitalism and the state, than bringing scoundrels to justice?

Bill Weinberg is publisher of the political and online journal WORLD
WAR III REPORT and host of "The Moorish Orthodox Radio Crusade" on
WBAI.

Silvia Federici is a feminist writer and a member of the Committee for
Academic Freedom in Africa (CAFA).

Eric Laursen is a political/financial
author and member of NYC DAN.

Jay Underhill is host and producer of the
public access TV show "Anarchist Propaganda and Variety Hour".

After the panel presentation an open period of questions and discussion will
follow.

The event will take place at the Brecht Forum on the 10th floor of 122
West 27th St. [between 6th and 7th Aves.], a short walk from the 28th
St. 1, 2, N, and R stops, the 34th St. B, D, Q and W stop, and the 23rd
St. F and V stop. There is no set fee for the presentation, but a
contribution to aid the LBC is requested.

If you have questions, contact the LBC/Anarchist Forum, 212-979-8353,
339 Lafayette St., Room 202, NYC, NY 10012 or e-mail:

What Is It?

The National Conference on Organized Resistance (NCOR) is in its fifth
successful year. In years past, this conference has played a significant
role in coordinating a dialogue between activist groups, and sparking
in-depth discussion of the strategies and tactics of our various social
justice movements. This year, NCOR again envisions being a forum for cutting
edge discussion for people of all different levels of involvement. Last
year, over 1,000 people converged on Washington, DC for a weekend of
experience, discussion, planning, and protest. Don't miss this year!

New York City continues. It should move into high gear this coming
weekend in New York after several meetings happen. Hopefully, the
Anti-Capitalist Convergence in Washington, DC will endorse this call at
our next meeting. It's looking like the WEF meeting will shape up to be
a major anti-capitalist protest.

If your group or project would like to endorse this call, please email
me and I'll add your endorsement to the web version of this call.

New Dramatists presents

A Discussion with Dr. Benjamin R. Barber, author of Jihad vs McWorld

moderated by Gabrielle Schafer of Thieves Theater

Wednesday, Nov 28 7:00 PM

New Dramatists 424 West 44th, NYC

Space is limited

Reservations Required: (212) 757-6960

On Monday, September 25, about 75 playwrights gathered at New Dramatists to
share thoughts about the events of September 11. Although we were only able to
scratch the surface, many found the community forum to be a helpful means of
grappling with the scope of the tragedy and a good jumping-off point for
further conversation and action. Following the discussion, there was a
strong desire to gain a greater understanding of the political, historical
and economic circumstances surrounding the current events.

Come Join the Astor Place Whirl-Mart!

On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 12-1 pm, there will be a Whirl-Mart
event at the Astor Place K-Mart at Lafayette and St. Marks
(pre-whirl meeting in front of the store @ 11:45).
Whirl-Mart is a monthly ritual which involves participants
meeting at a given superstore and proceeding to push empty
shopping carts in silence throughout the store for an hour.
It is at once an act of performance, protest and
meditation....and YOU are invited!!! for more information,
visit: http://www.breathingplanet.net

here is the straight text from the flyer:

What is Whirl-mart?

Whirl-Mart is an anti-shopping ritual during which
a local breathingplanet troupe gathers and silently
pushes empty shopping carts through the aisles
of a local superstore. The ritual takes place on the
first Sunday of every month at 12 pm and lasts for
approximately one hour. It is at once a meditative and
energizing experience that blurs the boundaries
between action and audience.

Call for an Anti-Capitlaist Convergence Against the World Economic Forum in New York City (January 31ÑFebruary 4)

Join Us as New Yorkers Strike Back Against Corporate Terror

For years now, the CEOs of major corporations, hundreds
of top international government officials and just plain rich
people -- from Bill Gates to Bill Clinton -- have been meeting every
year in Davos, Switzerland. This is where the real rulers of the
world give the politicians their marching orders. This is where
the schemes that lead to atrocities like GATT and the WTO are
actually hatched. And this year, the dining club for the world
ruling class will be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Midtown
Manhattan.

The WEF is moving here because they were effectively chased out
of Switzerland by a concerted campaign of direct action. They
think that here in New York we're shell-shocked, punch-drunk, and
maybe we are but -- whaddya fuckin' kiddin' me?

francisco rojas of Genoa Resistance writes: "Why October 20th?

Three months after the police violence in Genoa it is more and more clear what the policies of the police and intelligence services are towards dissent and towards minorities and migrants. While these policies started well before the July g8 Summit in Genoa, the implications have been more and more elaborated in Genoa, and accelerated in the aftermath of the attacks in the US.

Minorities are being harassed and terrorized all over the West. Migrants are being rounded up in mass and deported as ‘threats to society’. Draconian laws are being introduced everywhere under the cover of ‘anti-terrorist’ measures which will significantly restrict civil liberties and limit the rights to dissent and protest.
